Library Server Usage Statistics

The usage data from the frontline access servers is relatively easy to interpret. The data from the library machine in the MSU production cluster is a little harder to interpret.
  • An "active user" is not only logged in to the system, but has also been interacting with it within the last half hour.
  • A server-load of "4" should be considered 100 percent load on this quad-processor machines.

The following are the graphs for one access server (user number should be multiplied by five), and the corresponding graph for the library machine. The library machine is mostly used by instructors for their sessions. However, in case of high load, learner sessions are automatically offloaded to the library machine - this appears to happens on weekday evenings, starting around 5pm. In addition, the library servers does maintenance and backup functions in the early hours of the morning, which explains the load spikes.
